Description
A Bursting Machine is a precision-engineered testing instrument designed to determine the bursting strength and distension properties of materials such as textiles, paper, corrugated board, leather, non-woven fabrics, and packaging materials. The test evaluates a material’s ability to withstand multi-directional pressure before rupture, making it an essential quality control tool in textile manufacturing, packaging industries, research laboratories, and inspection agencies.
The bursting strength test works on a hydraulic or pneumatic principle. A circular specimen of the test material is securely clamped over a flexible rubber diaphragm. Gradually increasing fluid or air pressure is applied beneath the diaphragm, exerting uniform stress in all directions on the sample. The pressure continues to rise until the specimen ruptures. The maximum pressure recorded at the point of rupture is considered the bursting strength of the material.
This method is particularly suitable for materials where tensile testing alone does not provide comprehensive durability data, especially knitted fabrics and nonwoven materials that experience multi-axial stress in real-world applications.
