Description
The Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE), established under the MBSE Act of 1975 and operational since December 2, 1976, is a state-level autonomous educational authority administering academic policies from elementary to higher secondary levels in Mizoram. Headquartered in Aizawl, it operates primarily in English and Mizo, under the leadership of Chairman J H Zoremthanga.
MBSE orchestrates a full spectrum of educational duties—from curriculum design and textbook prescription, to school recognition, conducting annual exams, and publishing results. It actively coordinates with the state government and fosters initiatives to support both students and educators.
MBSE is responsible for conducting several pivotal examinations:
In 2025, MBSE reported a notable rise in HSSLC pass rates, reaching 81.1%, up from 78.04% the previous year. A total of 12,105 students appeared, with 9,817 successfully clearing the exams. Female students outperformed their male counterparts across all streams—Arts, Science, and Commerce—claiming the top ranks and exhibiting stronger pass percentages.
MBSE’s deliberate inclusion of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)—which accounted for 40–50% of exam questions—marks its commitment to fostering deeper critical thinking. A future increase in HOTS content has been proposed to enhance academic rigor further.
