Description
Radiology 2025
Radiology coding is essential for accurate medical billing and compliance in healthcare. The 2025 updates to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes introduce significant changes in radiology, reflecting advancements in imaging technologies and procedures.
One notable addition is the introduction of six new codes for MRI safety and specific imaging services. These include codes for percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of thyroid nodules:
Additionally, MRI-monitored transurethral ultrasound ablation has been updated. The previous Category III code 0398T has been replaced with three new codes covering treatment planning, insertion, and ablation of prostate tissue.
Transcranial Doppler (TCD) studies have also seen revisions. Three new add-on codes have been introduced for complete TCD studies, including vasoreactivity studies, emboli detection without intravenous microbubble injection, and venous-arterial shunt detection with intravenous microbubble injection. Code 93893 has been revised, and 93890 has been deleted to ensure comprehensive documentation for cerebrovascular arterial studies.
These updates underscore the importance of staying current with coding changes to ensure accurate billing and optimal reimbursement. Healthcare providers should invest in ongoing education and leverage advanced coding technologies to navigate these changes effectively. Partnering with professional medical coding services can further enhance compliance and financial performance in the evolving landscape of radiology.
