Description
To install TotalAV on an Apple Mac, follow these technical steps. The process is straightforward, but it's important to meet system requirements and follow best practices to ensure proper installation.
Operating System: macOS 10.12 (Sierra) or later
RAM: Minimum 2 GB (4 GB recommended)
Storage: At least 200 MB of free disk space
Internet Connection: Required for downloading, activation, and updates
Download the Installer:
Visit the official TotalAV website using your preferred browser.
Click on the "Download" button for macOS.
The file will be downloaded as a .dmg
(Disk Image) file.
Open the Disk Image:
Locate the downloaded .dmg
file (usually in the Downloads folder).
Double-click to open it, which mounts a virtual disk on your desktop.
Install TotalAV:
Inside the mounted disk, double-click the TotalAV installer (usually named TotalAV.pkg
or similar).
Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation.
Grant Permissions:
macOS may prompt for permissions to install.
Enter your administrator password when requested.
You might also need to grant security permissions:
Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General
Click "Allow" if prompted to allow apps downloaded from identified developers.
Complete Installation:
After installation, TotalAV will appear in your Applications folder.
Open the app and sign in with your TotalAV account credentials.
Enter your license key if prompted, or activate via the account.
Run Initial Scan:

Check for the latest virus definitions and software updates.
Configure Settings:
Customize settings for real-time protection, firewall, and automatic scans.
Enable Automatic Updates:
Ensure TotalAV is set to update automatically for ongoing protection.
Installation Fails?
Check if macOS is blocking the installer: System Preferences → Security & Privacy.
Ensure you have administrator privileges.
Permission Errors?
Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy Tab and grant access to necessary folders.
App Won’t Open?
Reboot your Mac and try launching the app again.
