Description
The Sir Baron Jayatilaka Mawatha, Colombo 01 office of SriLankan Airlines has a prime location in the city's business district. This office, which houses divisions like SriLankan Vacations, Cargo Sales, and Passenger Sales, acts as the airline's corporate headquarters. The building itself is a mixture of modern and traditional design elements, with modern, purpose-built interior and a Dutch Colonial façade, inner structure, and courtyard that provide a relaxing and inviting sense of history.
In 2019, SriLankan Airlines made the decision to move its corporate headquarters from the World Trade Center to Katunayake, in the center of its business activities. In order to offer easy and direct customer access, important front sales and customer-focused operations, such as Sri Lanka Sales, FlySmiLes, the Global Contact Center, and the Cargo Sales Offices, continued to function from their current assumptions in Colombo. With the goal of improving back-office productivity, this program saved about LKR 75 million annually.
Air Ceylon acquired the Sir Baron Jayatilaka Mawatha property from the state in 1976, and it has an extensive history. The site is now the only property owned by SriLankan Airlines, having been acquired by Air Lanka in 1985 following the closing down of Air Ceylon. Although the worldwide epidemic caused delays in the project, the airline's reorganization plans included the transforming of this location to increase the efficient use of office space.
