As India gears up for the second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10, speculation is rife about the team lineup. The key question is whether skipper Rohit Sharma will open the innings.

 

 

 

 

In the first Test at Perth, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a record 205-run opening partnership in the second innings, with Jaiswal scoring a century and Rahul contributing 77. This impressive performance might encourage the team management to stick with this pair at the top. During the tour match against the Prime Minister’s XI, the duo opened despite Rohit Sharma playing, hinting at continuity.

Rohit, who has had a below-par run recently with an average of 13.30 in his last five matches, might bat lower down the order. With Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant solidly positioned at No. 3, 4, and 5, Rohit could slot in further down the lineup. Rahul, experienced at No. 6 from India’s South Africa tour, might fill that role.

Changes are expected in the playing XI. Rohit and Shubman are likely to replace Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel. While Washington Sundar played as the sole spinner in Perth, Ravindra Jadeja, who participated in the tour match, might replace him. R. Ashwin’s absence from the tour game suggests he may not feature in Adelaide.

India is likely to continue with a strong pace attack, making Jadeja the probable choice if the team opts for a spinner.
