Description
Steel investment casting, commonly known as the lost-wax casting process, is a manufacturing method used to produce highly accurate metal components. The process begins with creating a wax model of the desired part. This wax pattern is then coated with ceramic material to form a shell. Once hardened, the wax is melted away, leaving a cavity into which molten steel is poured. After solidification, the ceramic shell is broken to reveal the finished casting.
This process allows manufacturers to produce intricate shapes, tight tolerances, and smooth surface finishes that are difficult to achieve through conventional methods.
Steel is one of the most widely used materials in investment casting due to its exceptional mechanical properties. It offers:
Steel investment castings are commonly used in critical applications such as automotive components, aerospace parts, valves, pumps, and industrial machinery.
At Austin Alloy Cast, we work with a wide range of steel grades, including carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel, ensuring optimal performance based on application requirements.
