Description
To configure Bigpond email in Outlook first open the program and click on file, then add an account. When prompted, put in your Bigpond email address, click on Advanced Options, and select “Let me set up my account manually.”
Then click on either IMAP or POP depending on your email preference. It is recommended that you select IMAP if you would like the emails to sync across multiple devices. On the other hand, the POP protocol downloads messages and saves them locally while removing them from the server.
In the case of IMAP setup, make sure your incoming mail server is imap.telstra.com along with port number 993 while enabling SSL/TLS encryption. The outgoing mail server should be smtp.telstra.com with the corresponding settings of port 465 along with SSL/TLS turned on.
Now for the POP setup, the incoming server should be pop.telstra.com with port 995, and the same OUTGOING MAIL SERVER settings as IMAP.
After you’ve entered all the settings, enter your Bigpond Email Password and save the profile. After closing the program open Outlook once again and send a test mail to check if everything was configured properly. In case something goes wrong make sure that authentication is on for outgoing mail, and no security software is blocking the connection.
