Description
Antibiotic resistance in Nigeria is emerging as a critical public health threat that spans diverse urban and rural communities across the country. As misuse of antibiotics and weak regulatory frameworks deepen the crisis, the Nigerian National Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce (NNAST) is working hand-in-hand with national partners and global institutions to strengthen surveillance, improve prescribing practices and safeguard lives. From over-the-counter antibiotic access in cities to agricultural antibiotic use and under-resourced health centres in remote regions, the challenge of antibiotic resistance in Nigeria demands coordinated action, investment and awareness. At NNAST we champion this fight bolstering stewardship programmes, expanding data collection and forging resilient systems so that antibiotic resistance in Nigeria becomes a curbed risk, not an unchecked crisis.
