Description
The kiwi is a native New Zealand bird and a nickname for someone who comes from New Zealand. "Au Kai" means navigator in Hawaiian and "Kai" means food in Maori. Our vessel's captain is a "Kiwi" from New Zealand who has lived in Alaska for over 40 years . He has sailed the waters of Hawaii, New Zealand and explored many other Pacific islands. He has commercially fished summers in the Pacific Northwest since 1983.
Captain Josh now skippers Kai Moana to bring you food from the sea!
If your interest is in the natural wonder of Prince William Sound Captain Josh is happy to share his knowledge of the area gained while teaching Marine Technology at High School in Valdez for 20 years and 10 years in the "bush". Taking you out to see and share this magnificent area is his idea of the perfect retirement. As he likes to say.."this is the opposite of teaching high school..clients are always early, the questions never end and nobody want to go home".
In 2019 we added an additional boat to provide a bit more comfort and room. “Kai Moana” is 26’ Raider powered with twin Honda 150s. The name Kai...as you know means food in Maori and Moana means sea. A perfect name for our seafood provider! Both vessels have heated cabins and a private head, (restroom for your landlubbers).
