On finding my voice again — and what happens when silence becomes self-discovery.On finding my voice again — and what happens when silence becomes self-discovery.
Dear Reader,
There was a time I walked into rooms full of people and left feeling invisible —
not because I had nothing to say, but because I wasn’t ready to hear myself yet.
My voice had grown quiet, tucked beneath expectations I wore like designer labels: tailored to impress, stitched with silence.
Before I ever coached women to reclaim their confidence, before I spoke on stages or led retreats,
I was a fashion designer.
I ran a boutique in the UK.
I knew how to dress women to look powerful — but inside, I was running on fumes.
My worth had become woven into the seams of the clothes I created.
The smiles I wore were held together with pins.
“Grief doesn’t always look like tears. Sometimes it looks like working yourself numb.”
Then came the moment I didn’t recognize myself anymore.
I’d lost my father and missed his funeral.
My son was a newborn.
My business demanded everything.
Somewhere between orders, fittings, and financial strain, I stopped breathing.
I stopped speaking.
I almost gave up.
Yet silence has its wisdom.
In stillness, you hear the truth.
My truth was this:
I didn’t want to just style women anymore.
I wanted to see them — really see them.
To help them find confidence not in fabric, but in their own voice.
And that’s how Confidence Magazine was born — out of a deep ache to amplify women who dare to transform.
This issue, Owning Your Voice, is about reclaiming that power.
It doesn’t always arrive in a roar.
Sometimes it’s whispered on a yoga mat.
Sometimes it slips into a new pair of jeans with an exhale.
Sometimes it’s painted in a mandala or spoken under starlight.
“Every woman’s voice matters — even the quiet ones.”
You’ve read stories of women who dressed themselves into visibility,
who exhaled into balance,
who colored their way back to self-trust.
And maybe, you’ve glimpsed your own reflection among them.
Reclaiming your voice doesn’t always feel like soaring.
Sometimes it hurts.
There’s a quiet grief when you realize some only loved you when you needed saving —
and vanished when you started to rise.
As an empath, I used to ask:
Am I too much? Too fast? Too successful?
But healing taught me this:
People’s behaviors aren’t always about you.
They echo their own fears and wiring.
So now, I speak not only to empower —
but to bring compassion to those who have silenced others, knowingly or not.
Our next issue will dive deeper into this work —
breaking cycles, rebuilding integrity, and rising with grace.
Because true confidence doesn’t wait for applause.
It begins in that quiet, trembling moment you choose yourself.
“Confidence isn’t always born. Sometimes, it’s remembered.”
Take a breath.
Grab your journal.
Ask yourself:
Where have I been silent?
Which part of me is ready to speak?
What would shift if I honored my voice as sacred?
This isn’t just a letter — it’s a mirror.
Look into it.
Let it remind you that you are already becoming the woman you once dreamed of.
With love,
Elif x
